Leaving Murren
Today was our last day in Murren. We woke up to another bright clear sky and warmer weather. The kids teamed up to cook Jamie a birthday breakfast. They first hiked down to the bakery and brought back pastries and started with a large platter of finger sized pastry sampler including her favorite, apricot. They made a big plate of scrambled eggs and a special braided Sunday bread. We also had Mimosas’ (champagne and orange juice) and Andres even came up with a candle for the pastries. The kids did some more sledding runs, their new favorite sport, with scary speed and nearly missed corners. After that, we all pitched in to scrub the house and wash all the linens. There is no dryer so you have to be thoughtful about whether the wash will dry or freeze first.
The Kids took all of their ski equipment down to the east end of town to be ferried down the gondola to Andres car. He is keeping it all for them at his home in Zurich until after their trek and they will pick the gear up on their way home. They then came to the train station at the west end of town and joined us for the train, gondola, train , hike trip to our hotel in Interlaken.
We walked about a mile to the hotel with ever increasing appreciation of the wheels on the luggage. The hotel is on the back streets but is clean and fairly central (notably less than a block to the car rental for tomorrow morning). We all took Jamie out to a Birthday dinner a couple of blocks from the hotel and had an excellent Italian meal.
The kids came back to the hotel room, packed up again and headed back to the train station for a train/plane/bus to Toulouse France for the start of their two week, 150 mile hike. We hated to part with them but love that they are off on an adventure and that they can spend the time together.
Its now late and we are beat. We’ll sight-see tomorrow around Interlaken until it's time to pick up the car and then head for Lacarno and then to Valle Meggia. Hope everyone is doing well. It’s been a world class Birthday. Who could have dreamt a birthday like this.
Here are some pictures.
